Listen: G2G – ‘YOU DON’T SAY SHIT RIGHT’

Words: James Frostick
Cover art: Annabel Blackman

Thrilling Sydney-born newcomers G2G have thrown another musical morsel into the yard for us starved animals to greedily fight over. ‘You Don’t Say Shit Right’ is another example of the three-piece unit’s knack for carving textured sculptures from blocks of raw dissonant sonic material.

Premiere: EX-RENTAL – ‘PURE EMOTION / RAW DATA’

Words: James Frostick

New noise is emerging from Sydney’s experimental electronic scene courtesy of Jack De Lacy. ‘Pure Emotion / Raw Data’ is a thunderous assault on the senses. This slice of subterranean clang and throb is a study in the power of voice as an instrument that can be modulated, and how that bending via technology alters the role of the body and renders it redundant once the organic byproduct is harvested and refined.

Listen: G2G – ‘NO KID NO ANGEL’

Words: James Frostick

After popping up on numerous live bills across Sydney, buzzing three-piece G2G has offered up the first taste of some recorded material. ‘No Kid No Angel’ is a piece of oblique post-punk that carries a sense of entrapment, conveying urgent sentiments regarding identity, change and growth in the face of gloom and uncertainty.

Premiere: SPOD – ‘SEXUAL FANTASY’

Video Premiere: IDIOT BOX – ‘BABY BOOMER’

Words: James Frostick

We’re stoked to premiere the new clip from Sydney rabble-rousers Idiot Box. ‘Baby Boomer’ is a snotty sneer at Australia’s ruling establishment, pushing forth sentiments of derision on the back of some aggro rock’n’roll.

For a week in September, Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley becomes the focal point for the Australian music industry as the BIGSOUND Festival kicks off. Hundreds of industry members, punters and musicians assemble to see the next wave of acts perform live across several official and unofficial showcase performances.

Weirdo Wasteland, in conjunction with photographer Jeff Andersen Jnr. and Jet Black Cat Music, put a call out to some BIGSOUND artists we admire to enlist them for a series of portraits taken at Bloodhound Bar throughout the week.

The latest in the series is Sydney’s Sunscreen. The band came up to Brisbane to play a series of sideshows throughout the week, and we took the opportunity to chat to Sunscreen members Sarah Sykes and Alexander McDonald about the band’s beginnings and a forthcoming EP.  Check out the chat and gallery below.
