Red Red Krovvy – a trio of some of the country’s fiercest punk-rock pugilists – are gearing up to throw down with the establishment on forthcoming album Managing. Soundtracking a vicious scrap with the ugliest elements of the self-centred elite, the record’s first two available tracks document RRK’s dogged determination to make cracks in the foundations – no matter how much their knuckles bleed.
A lot of things went down in March 2020. As the nation shut its borders and everyone prepared themselves for the oncoming pandemic, a cloud seemed to hover over everything. Despite the ominous feeling permeating those weeks, the music scene kept churning out great records – some of which are candidates for best of the year. In an effort to keep track of the year’s best recorded material, Weirdo Wasteland is releasing monthly round-ups of albums and EPs that we didn’t have enough time to cover at the time of release. Heads up – here’s some new grit from Perth! Up-and-coming punk troupe Gaffer are set to release a seven-track demo later this month, filled with an immediate and arresting take on 70s and 80s punk and post-punk. Lead track ‘Hang’ is a furious blast that fuses anger and futility – a potent mix that gives off a sense of ‘nothing to lose’ abandon.
A tempest is rising in the west. Perth punk four-piece Cold Meat have announced the forthcoming release of their debut full-length records Hot and Flustered. Lead single ‘Bad Mood’ is the the first lick of the furious storm to come – a punishing number boasting prickly riffs, uncompromising percussion and furious vocals that are well and truly fed up with everything and anything.
Fresh out of the oven is a collection of tracks from two of Australia’s most exciting punk acts. Ubik and Cold Meat have linked up for a split EP, packed to bursting point with potent and pointed noise. This release seeks to link present day bi-coastal Australian punk and pay homage and earnest tribute to the legacy of women-driven output from generation’s past.
