View: THE HARPOONS PORTRAIT SERIES

For a week in September, Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley becomes the focal point for the Australian music industry as the BIGSOUND Festival kicks off. Hundreds of industry members, punters and musicians assemble to see the next wave of acts perform live across several official and unofficial showcase performances.

Weirdo Wasteland, in conjunction with photographer Jeff Andersen Jnr. and Jet Black Cat Music, put a call out to some BIGSOUND 2017 artists we admire to enlist them for a series of portraits taken at Bloodhound Bar throughout the week.

Weirdo Wasteland favourites The Harpoons graciously gave their time to pose for some shots. The band is on the cusp of releasing its second album Amaro, which will be out Friday April 13. Before that album arrives, The Harpoons are sharing new single ‘Pressure’, which follows on from previous tunes ‘Do You Want My Love’ and ‘Reassurance’.

View: TWO STEPS ON THE WATER AT BIGSOUND 2017

For a week in September, Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley becomes the focal point for the Australian music industry as the BIGSOUND Festival kicks off. Hundreds of industry members, punters and musicians assemble to see the next wave of acts perform live across several official and unofficial showcase performances.

Weirdo Wasteland, in conjunction with photographer Jeff Andersen Jnr. and Jet Black Cat Music, put a call out to some BIGSOUND artists we admire to enlist them for a series of portraits taken at Bloodhound Bar throughout the week.

The latest in the series is Melbourne-based ensemble Two Steps on the Water. Not long after BIGSOUND the band released Sword Songs, the second long-form record from the group. The album’s brutal emotionality and disarming nature immediately set it amongst the best releases of the year, matching expectations set highly at the band’s BIGSOUND showcase performances. View: BOAT SHOW AT BIGSOUND 2017

The latest in the series is Fremantle, West Australian outfit Boat Show. The five-piece – consisting of Ali Flintoff, Jennifer Aslett, Indigo Foster-Tuke, Stella Donnelly and George Foster – was one of the most talked-about acts of the week, blowing away audiences with their blend of frenzied punk. VIEW: RVG AT BIGSOUND 2017
