This is music best for watching the world go by. With that in mind though, as passive as shoegaze can be, I’ll be damned if I didn’t feel more motivated to go do something after a good listen. It’s slow music, but it’s far from being idle.
Doctopus put out a brand of music not too unlike fellow scorched-rock purists Wireheads and Bad//Dreems – the key differences being the rapid pace of their songs and the rancour-drenched howls of lead vocalist Stephen Bellair; each creating a point of difference for their personal brand of squall.
Rock and Roll Juice is a rather innocent collection, silently setting itself firmly in the midst of contemporary Australian twang. While looking at life at ground level, Ciggie Witch revel in up-front recollections and revelations about not fitting in, wasting time, making hard decisions and not being satisfied with the results.
