Luxury is cold disco, futuristic art-pop and heady wooze. It doesn’t waste a note, it doesn’t miss a beat. It is a perfectly executed introduction to a duo that won’t settle for less than the best.
Initial Vision, the second EP from Brisbane’s Perfume Garden is astounding. The music points forward and back, drawing elements of previous eras of electronica into its dream world. It’s the soundtrack to utopia, if we were to ever reach it.
Cobwebbs pride themselves on taking psych to depraved new depths. The depth that Cobwebbs dig to is far from the light of the sun. Their world is polluted and frightening; acid rain and lightning. It’s hiding in subterranean lairs, rebelling against the topside.
At first listen, this record is a mess. Haphazard and nonsensical, beats are scattered and guitars are everywhere. At points the two musicians come together to make great music and those points aren’t as rare as you think. Intertwining amongst the aural refuse is some striking musicianship that blends jazz and punk perfectly.
