Bad//Dreems, my favourite South Australian rugged-rock group has emerged from a short silence to spit forth a firecracker. ‘Cuffed & Collared’ is a tune that pulls no punches, which is fitting because it’s a song about getting into a blue (winning or losing is irrelevant) and then being arrested. Addendum: I’ve been informed that it ‘Cuffed & Collared’ can also refer to the constraints of full-time work – shirt and tie shit. Either way, it’s the man that is putting down in the end.
The recognisable tones of Alex Cameron’s frenetic work lead into this quick tale about a rough week that takes a turn for the worse. It’s an ode to having more shit being shovelled onto the pile – you think your day can’t get any worse and then it does. Work life, social life, life life – so it is, so it goes.
This song’s got groove (bass and drums are killer) and Ben Marwe’s throaty vocals voice frustration perfectly as always. This is a song with gristle and toughness, communicated by the group howls in the chorus. The song is rough as guts in a good way and it’s nice to hear something new come through. My understanding is Bad//Dreems will have something substantial out this year in the form of an LP through Ivy League Records and I can’t fucking wait.
