Workshop are two ladies from Brisbane, Erin and Emma. They released their first single, ‘Repeat After Me’ on cassette on a very limited run through Tenth Court. A full length will be out in August, until then, ‘Repeat After Me’ stays on repeat.
The duo recently put forth a video for the single in collaboration with Brisbane’s IMA, fashion label Verner. Directed by Megan Cullen, the video combines retro-futuristic aesthetic with the smooth coolness of the music. White and pastel gloss screened through VCR tech – the video is a highly stylised piece of work which adds to the music ably.
Robotic in nature, ‘Repeat After Me’ sounds like a plea for understanding from misunderstood AI. The dual harmonies and interweaving synthesizer work are great, and the two have a polished sound. There is beauty in the sterility – these two women know what they are about and look to be relentless in their approach to art and sound.
